As I considered this year’s presidential candidates trying to determine who God would want me to vote for, I realized that I had set my standards higher than God’s own standards. If we look through the Bible at the leaders God Himself chose, we realize that not one of them was perfect!

My journey to McCain
I never wanted to vote for John McCain. When I heard several months ago that Dr. James Dobson said that he wouldn’t vote in this election because he didn’t want to vote for McCain, I agreed with Dr. Dobson. Almost. I would have never said that I wouldn’t vote, but I would have gladly “thrown my vote away” by voting for a longshot (or even “no-shot”) third party candidate Continue reading →
Disturbing encounter at laundromat
I was at the laundromat this morning and met a couple who had come in to wash their comforter. They were amazed at how much laundry I was doing. As we talked, they found out how many kids we have and that we are in the pro-life ministry. I found out that they are against abortion and they go to a local Catholic church which has been supportive of LifeSavers Ministries and 40 Days for Life. The wife has also been involved in praying outside the abortion center.
I said “well, then, you know not to vote for Obama, right?”
They looked dumbfounded when I said that. It was obvious that they were Obama supporters. Continue reading →
“Faith” oriented forum disappointing
On Thursday, Terri heard about a forum being held at a local church, featuring candidates for the Kern High School District Board of Trustees. The forum was organized and led by Faith in Action Kern County, a coalition of local churches. When we heard that some of the churches involved in our local 40 Days for Life campaign are a part of this coalition, we were hopeful that the forum might provide some useful insight on who to vote for in the coming election. Our hopes, however, were short-lived. Continue reading →
Why another blog?
We began our blogging experience a few months ago on our 40 Days for Life Bakersfield blog, and then started a LifeSavers Ministries blog a few months later. So why start another blog?
From the beginning I have intended to have a personal blog, primarily to share thoughts on scriptural issues (such as “glorifying Jesus“) which extend beyond the boundaries of our ministries. But I wouldn’t be taking the time to start this blog right now in the midst of a busy 40 Days for Life campaign if there wasn’t a compelling reason to do so right now. Continue reading →
Who are we?
If you’re taking the time to read this blog, you probably already know that my wife Terri and I lead LifeSavers Ministries and the Bakersfield 40 Days for Life campaigns. (For the record, Terri is the Chairman of LifeSavers and I am the Administrator.) Although this blog is new, we have been blogging for a while, primarily on the Bakersfield 40 Days for Life blog. If you want to learn to know us better, here are some previous blog entries which may give you some insight into some of the issues we are going through right now. Continue reading →
Why “glorify Jesus”?
Many years ago, we chose the name of this domain, glorifyJesus.com, (which contains various aspects of our work and ministries) to intentionally focus on the central point of effective ministry: glorifying the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. But sometimes the meaning of the word “glorify” gets a bit muddied.
From my study of the Bible, I believe that the concept of “glorifying Jesus” is quite simple. Continue reading →
