With our 30th wedding anniversary coming up next week, we have been reminiscing about some of the ways God brought us together.

We had countless conversations with each other during over seven years before our wedding, but our collaborations on church and radio projects began to bring us closer together in 1983.

Reviewing some old cassette tapes, we found several of our old memorable radio commercials, including:

• a crazy promotion for a McFarland restaurant
  
• a mock game show (with Terri as the contestant)
  
• a conversation that foreshadowed our wedding (about a year before our engagement)
  

During our nine-month engagement, the wedding commercial gave Terri an idea: she developed a series of features explaining the history of various wedding traditions, and found businesses to sponsor the features. Those advertisements offset the cost of most of our wedding expenses, with businesses trading flowers, wedding cake, etc., for advertising. Our entire wedding cost less than $1000.

We also collaborated on writing and performing songs during these years, including songs for our wedding which set the tone for our life together (such as Created to Serve and our own version of Be Glorified).

This nine minute excerpt from our wedding features us singing a duet of “I am Loved,” emphasizing that we wanted our marriage to be built upon God’s love, not our own.

When we sang some of the latest Christian songs in church we sometimes shocked our conservative congregation (although anything we sang was mild by today’s standards). Here is a partial recording of one gentle song we sang in church during that time (although the recording is unbalanced, with Tim’s harmony louder than Terri’s melody).
