In my life, Lord, be glorified, be glorified.
In my life, Lord, be glorifed today.
In my life, Lord, be glorified, be glorified.
In my life, Lord, be glorified today.
Lord, it was not good to be alone,
with no one by my side.
So, you made a helper fit for me, together we'll be your bride.
In our lives, Lord, be glorified, be glorified.
(In our lives, Lord, we will glorify You, glorify You.)
In our lives, Lord, be glorified today.
(In our lives, Lord, we will glorify You.)
In our lives, Lord, be glorified, be glorified.
(In our lives, Lord, we will glorify You, glorify You.)
In our lives, Lord, be glorified today.
(In our lives, Lord, we will glorify You.)
Love is an eternal gift from You.
We know no greater love
than You, giving Your one and only Son.
Oh, teach us how to love.
(Musical interlude)
Here, standing in front of those we love,
we make a holy vow.
Now, we can no longer live as two,
we are one life in You.
Help us to live as one life in You.
In our life, Lord, be glorified, be glorified.
In our life, Lord, be glorified, we pray.
Be glorified,
be glorified, be glorified,
we pray.
We wrote this song in the days before our wedding in 1985,
to communicate our prayer that God would be glorified in our married life.
My brother Phil Palmquist and his wife Robyn sang the song beautifully for
the April 28 wedding ceremony, as Debbie Burnham skillfully accompanied them
on piano and Erv Regehr played the organ.
Terri had originally come up with idea of a song which would say "together
we can serve the Lord better than we can separately," but the familiar
"be glorified" worship chorus seemed to express our heart's desire best.
As we thought about our hope that God would be glorified through our
marriage, we saw this desire as going through three steps:
Our individual desire to glorify God ("in my life...")
As
Our desire to glorify Him together as two separate persons ("in our lives...")
Our unified desire to glorify Him as one flesh in marriage
("in our life...")
This desire for God to be glorified has guided us throughout our marriage,
and was a key part of our 1986 decision to become involved in ministering to
our Lord through "the least of these"--innocent preborn babies who are
scheduled to die. Though we often fall short of this high ideal, we thank
God that He has allowed us to be used by Him to save more lives who
join together with us in this chorus of voices glorifying Jesus.
Incidentally, the name of this site (glorifyJesus.com) ultimately traces
back to our wedding and this song. We consider it a great privilege to
have the opportunity through this site and these ministries to shine a
spotlight of glory on our precious Lord, and on the precious tiny children in
whom He is present among us.
