Terri and Tim Palmquist
11/95
This song would never had been written were it not for the
restrictive rules of the Bakersfield Christmas parade committee. In 1995,
LifeSavers Ministries
constructed its first parade float for the Bakersfield Christmas parade.
The plan for the float was to show the three Biblical stages of Jesus'
life as a preborn man.
The original plan called for three simple signs "First Trimester," "Second
Trimester," "Third Trimester." The parade committee refused to allow these
signs. Then we decided we would just have some scriptures read out loud over
the float's sound system. Again the answer was "no." "All we will allow
over the loudspeakers," they said, "is Christmas music."
Christmas music? Hmmm....
And so, we wrote a Christmas song to proclaim the same message we had wanted
to get across through the signs and scriptures. Just to make sure the
parade committee didn't reject our song, we entitled it "The Magic of
Christmas" (which just happened to be the theme for the 1995 parade).
To the parade
committee's credit, we have to admit that we're glad
that they put us in a position where we felt we had to write this song!
